The heaven’s hundred
People born and die always, and sometimes you do not take this into account because it is so obvious. It happens every day, hour, minute, second. But, you start to pay attention only when its compromise you. Two weeks ago happened something bad, something really terrible, which will live in my memory forever.
I was on my way to university when I saw a smoke coming from the Maidan. I was tense, but still moving to uni. However, at the middle of the class our director came and said that we should go home right now. It’s emergency situation. Move fast-fast!
We were all scared, and when I came out of the building I saw a lot of people! Whole city center was crowded by frightened people. The underground was closed, buses were out of the service, taxi did not work. I had no idea what to do, my sister found a car for me and my friends. All my mates walked home, the city was full of people outside. Some drivers picked up strangers on the streets, free of charge, just to help them to get home. I waited a car for 3 hours, because it was difficult to move around in horrible traffic.
When I finally back home, I met my sister. She was desperate. I asked her what the hell is going on, and she just let me to see the news channel. Online broadcasting from the Maidan. The new protest began, but it was not peaceful anymore. President’s army “Berkut” attacked protesters, and special forces started to shoot ordinary people. All that happened at the city center. At the center of European country, people were dying from bullets. That was horrible. We were terrified by the situation and were shocked. In 10 km from our home people were dieding on the streets. We could not do anything.
My sister drove a car with her friend to help people who were suffering at the protest. They picked up people, brought medicine, bought essentials. When she was leaving house, she gave my all her emergency numbers, passwords and promised me that she safety will come home. But everyone understood that the promisse does not worth even a penny.
While she was at hot spot, I was following the news from live streams. I gathered all info about what is hapening in Kiev at the moment. All computers and gadgets in my house were turned on, three different news channels online, facebook, bbc, hromadske – information was my only weapon.
People were brave enough to move on when shooters killed the first 4 men. No matter man or woman. It was three bloody days, 100 deaths, and ocean of tears. When all settled down, I went to Maidan. I could not understand how in future I will walking, having fun, enjoying ice cream at Independents Square. How? There is blood of my nation. I came there for the first time with a bouquet of tulips. The traditional flower in our country for this case is aster, but there were all out of stock! All soled! I came at Maidan, and sow thousands of people, who were crying, almost everyone, starting from a little girl to an old man. Right now there are mountains of flowers, and every day people are coming again and again to see who fought for their freedom.
The heaven’s hundred, are the first 100 people who died during the revolution. I can say without hesitation that everyone in Kiev, or even probably in whole country know at least 10 names from that hundred.
Nowadays, people said that the heaven’s hundred will rest in peace only when murders are punished. I believe that they died for something big, I hope that it was not in vain.
